Advice in case of an accident

What should I do if I'm involved in a traffic accident?

If you are involved in a traffic accident, follow these basic rules:

If people have been injured, provide first aid if possible and call for medical assistance—dial 112.

Do not move the vehicle; try to preserve details that reveal the circumstances of the traffic accident.

If necessary, call the police – dial 112.

When filling out the electronic traffic accident declaration at draudimoįvykiai.lt, follow the wizard’s prompts to complete the declaration quickly and easily.

When filling out a paper accident report form, take your time to sketch a diagram of the accident and describe the circumstances; carefully and clearly fill in the details regarding the vehicles, their drivers, insurance documents, and other required information; and have all parties involved sign the form. If you are the injured party, do not sign the section intended for the person at fault. Complete as many copies of the report form as there are parties involved. Do not alter or change the form once it has been filled out and signed. If possible, take photographs of the accident scene, the damage to the vehicles, and the license plate of the vehicle belonging to the party at fault.

Once the electronic traffic accident declaration is completed on draudimoįvykiai.lt, data regarding the accident is automatically transmitted to the at-fault party’s insurance company, so all you need to do is contact them to claim compensation for damages.

After completing a paper traffic accident declaration, notify the at-fault party’s insurance company in writing within 3 working days of the accident, and advise the at-fault party to do the same. Submit the declaration signed by the parties involved in the accident—or another signed document detailing the circumstances of the accident—to the at-fault party’s insurance company.

How do I fill in an accident report?

For filling out the form, choose the official electronic traffic accident declaration at draudimoįvykiai.lt. It is a much more convenient and simpler way to report a traffic accident: a smart wizard provides guidance to help complete the declaration, some data is loaded automatically, and all the information from the completed declaration is automatically transmitted to the at-fault party’s insurance company.

The set of a paper traffic accident declaration consists of two identical self-copying forms, so when filling out the declaration, it is not necessary to fill in both forms separately, it is enough for both participants in the traffic accident to fill out the first declaration form – each of them has their own part. If you use a copy of this form, fill out as many pages as there are participants in the traffic accident.

You will find instructions on how to fill out the paper traffic accident report form on the reverse side of the sheet. We recommend familiarizing yourself with these instructions in advance, once you receive the form.

Please note that it is prohibited to correct, alter, or add missing data to a completed and signed paper declaration.

Ką dar privalo padaryti eismo įvykio dalyviai, įvykus eismo įvykiui

Immediately stop and mark the scene of the traffic accident in the manner prescribed by the Road Traffic Rules: switch on the vehicle’s hazard warning lights, or—if the vehicle lacks them or they are not functioning, or if the vehicle is stopped in a location where other road users would only see it from a distance of less than 100 meters—immediately place a hazard warning triangle on the roadway on the side facing oncoming traffic:

Can the insurance company claim the amount from me?

It is worth noting that an insurance company, having compensated the injured party for the damage you caused, may seek to recover the paid amount from you if:

You drove a vehicle while intoxicated.
You were driving a technically defective vehicle.
You were driving without the right to drive a vehicle.
You left the scene of the accident.
You caused damage on purpose.
If you did not fulfill the obligations of the participants in the traffic accident and other obligations set out in the insurance contract and thus increased the damage due to your own fault.
